The light, colors, and values of this work build upon and use all the techniques I have learned in the past 3 months. The view and presentation of this painting is remarkably dependent on light. In a low or moderate light environment, much of the color and detail gets lost in the shadows….focusing the attention almost exclusively on the flowing stream and nearby rocks. In stronger light or direct sunlight, all the details spring into focus. The glow of the sun across the rocks, the shadows from grasses and bushes, the reflecting sun across the multi-colored stones in the river.
Everything is different depending on the light source. Like several of the other paintings it also lends itself to be visually striking in the “Ansel Adams” black and white style:
