(Oil on Canvas, 24×48)

Looking Back
“Gilmore Lake from Mt Tallac” was finished in 2008. This was one of the very first oil paintings I completed…however I remember it took an exceedingly long time to create – at least several months.

I would sit at my desk and stare at the canvas often…figuring out what needed to be completed next, what needed touching up, or how it should all come together…layer by layer.

As I look back at this painting there are many things I love about the composition and the seemingly easy way it flows. As my technical painting skill set evolves and I become much more adept at illustrating details as I wish, this painting reminds me of the critical importance of the basic composition and need for patience.
